Lament For The Loss Of Fairy Tales - Poem by R K Summers

In trees diseased with ruby leaves
And moonlight bright upon the night
The beasts that sleep in slumber deep
Do shiver and shake in deathly wake
For lest the best of dark possessed
Extends the wings of cruellest things
And books and pages of ancient mages
Are turned to dust by pained mistrust
Skin and bone has turned to stone
Like rotting fables on kitchen tables

All things in time must learn to die
Until only stars remain on high
