A Knapsack And Pipe - Poem by Robert Murray Smith

'All I want from life is a knapsack
on my back, and a pipe.

In these depression years, I don't
mope.

I am far from sad, more glad that I
can roam without a home.

Knocking on farm doors marked, a feed
will see me through to the next.

A little work I'm set, after I will
lay my head in the hay.

A wandering soul am I, but in peace
I go with my knapsack, and pipe.'
