Expectation - Poem by Irene Mitchell

This is the right moment
to fashion a future,
a future such as the one that goes back
to when I said Yes-

and I kept to that affirmative
gladly, wholeheartedly,
attuned to its measures.

If there is such an enemy as Once,
or a pronouncement such as Forever,
I leave them both behind.

This is the right moment
to ward off any disturbance
in the atmosphere
and give a quick, quirky knock at the door.
