Zz 067 The Saddest Beauty - Poem by Edward Wright Haile

She was the saddest beauty of them all.
She grabbed at every lover that she found
so desperately they always let her down,
and each of them was ridden to a fall.

To love her meant to share her fits and strain
to see within that softest skin and eyes
one who insisted on her tragedies
and passions like a sickness on the brain.

Her looks alone could never but engage
her target, who then shone to be her lover,
until on some pretext she dumped her rage,
and there was nothing but to run for cover.

And though they all have learned to live without her,
still when they dream of love they dream about her.
