.close To Home - Poem by NikMorgan ...

This town is dirty
Harbouring grubby ambitions
The only time it listens
Is when money talks or profit calls

Service is a burden
An enemy of the state
They chop and chop
Till the structure falls

There is no grand design
They only paint over the cracks
Cosmetic surgery never cured a thing
For vanity there is no cure

This is a ghost town
Derelicts haunted by an industrious past
Money never stays here
It takes and takes
Then moves on to leafier lanes

These litter strewn streets are paved with dogshit
It gets on our shoes and into our lives
Leaving stains to see for years to come
Dreams fade like our ancient tattoos
Dulled reminders of better times past
