Poems about hope - A Feeling That Is Hope

A Feeling That Is Hope - Poem by Maggie Shields

I have a weary weight on me
serving and giving,
parched and dry,
I thought I'd rather be a manservant than a slavedriver.

But there's a new kid in town.
Not descended from slaves,
from a proud heritage that is of old.
Not black or white,
a universal appeal
A shock to our nation,
fingers, toes, eyes
crossed.

i rethink my first thought.
Abuse and leadership,
do not go hand in hand.

Out of the blue,
we feel a feeling that is
hope.
